Working on sheets and halyards for the J24 #det2011

We’ve had our new Dyneema® Fibre, Gottifredi Maffioli ropes for about a month now and we’ve put them through some good racing which included two regattas. All I can say is that the Newswift and Superswift have surpassed out expectations for the main sheet, spinnaker sheets and other control lines. They are very soft yet stiff. I highly suggest these for any one design keelboats. I never thought I could fall in love with a line like I have with these two.
As for the halyards, we are working with Maffioli to find out the right rope for the intense mark roundings we experience on the race course with the J24. We will be replacing the jib halyard, which was the Globastar 75 and the spinnaker halyard, Globaltech 75, with DSK 75 PC (polyester and Cordura). This is very exciting news. The Globalstar and Globaltech are amazing ropes but it wasn’t the right fit. We needed ropes to prevent some knotting for the foredeck who is hoisting the jib, taking down the pole and dropping the spinnaker pretty much all at the same time. When you have all the time in the world, knotting will never be an issue but in less than 5 seconds, you can’t have that happen. This position on the race course is where you can really pick up boats and move up the standings. After speaking with Maffioli in Italy, they suggested that the DSK 75 PC would do the trick. DSK 75 PC is the ultimate in ropes. Maffioli is going beyond expectations in providing this caliber of ropes as it was not part of the Dyneema Experience package. But they understand what racing is all about. I’m impressed! I can’t say enough about the quality of customer service that I have received from Gottifredi Maffioli. They are treating us like pros and are welcoming our feedback. You can’t ask for better.
