Check out this video. Especially around the 3 minute mark. Good stuff.
“There was no breeze for the final 2 days of the event. We saw some ribbons of breeze come in but die off almost as quickly. We were in and out of the harbour a few times over this period as the race committee was hopeful that something would materialize. It obviously didn’t. Rossi sailed a strong series to claim 3rd place and was not challenged for the Pan am spot by either the Puerto Rican entry or by the other eligible Canadian boat (my team was not eligible since I did not enter with an all-Canadian crew and never do at the Midwinters). All in all it was a great event – the RC did the best they could on the water with the conditions that were presented. The off-water hospitality exceeded the normal high standards that DIYC sets year after year. There was plenty of food and beverage to keep all of us entertained for the 5 days of the event.”
Rossi Milev was the top Canadian boat at this year’s Midwinters in Tampa. He will be representing Canada at the 2011 Pan Am Games in Mexico. The victorious team Tarheel led by Peter Bream led wire to wire. Unfortunately, two days were cancelled due to light winds. I’m expecting two more captain’s logs. Stay tuned!
Again, no racing today at the J/24 Midwinters
“We have had six races in the first two days of racing. The wind was from the west north west at 6-12 knots. Weather has been sunny and with highs in the low 70s. Yesterday there was no wind because of a light easterly gradient building overnight. Today does not look much better because of the same weather pattern. Peter Bream and team Tar Heel have been unstoppable with great speed and almost no mistakes. This is a very tough group so anything can happen today. Looks like light winds, sunny with highs in the mid 70s today.”
No wind, no racing today.
